As in every ICM, the daily routine of workshops is interrupted by an enjoyable and pleasant sightseeing trip which takes the participants around the major points of interest of the city, or country in our case.
The ICM Malta sightseeing trip is going to take you straight to our unique and beautiful capital city of Valletta, built on Mount Sciberras by The Knights Hospitallers to fortify the Order's position in Malta and bind the Knights to the island. The foundation stone of Valletta was laid by the Grandmaster of the Order of Saint John, Jean Parisot de la Valette on 28 March 1566.
Much has been said about the religious, and military achievements of the Knights. The city built by the ‘Gentlemen for Gentlemen’ is ample witness to their prowess. During this sightseeing trip we will be talking about the other side of the Medal of the ‘Monks of War’. We will be talking about their ‘camp followers’. Throughout the 268 year rule of the Order prostitution flourished and cut across all social barriers. The tour explores the different strategies employed by the three ruling bodies to control and rectify perpetrators.
During this tour we will be walking through the ‘gut’. The Gut has been pictured by many, as a den of sin and sleaze, by others as a means of eking out a living, some saw it as a monumental opportunity to make a fortune. The ‘Courtesans In The City Tour’ is a walking tour that will take you deep into the back streets of Valletta. We explore forgotten places; corners of the City that have been dormant for centuries are brought back to life. We enjoy splendid views of the Grand Harbour and admire splendid architecture from days gone by.
